Due to 2016 drought local food production in Mvolo, Yeri and Bahr El girindi Counties and Dari, Lessi, Gulu and Mbara Payams were very lower compared with the food productions in the previous years.
On the other hand the persistent insecurity caused by the on-going conflict in South Sudan prevented people in Mvolo, Yeri and Bahr El girindi Counties and Dari, Lessi, Gulu and Mbara Payams from cultivating their agricultural farms. The impacts of the mentioned natural and man-made disasters culminated to Hunger Crisis in Mvolo, Yeri, Bahr El Girindi Counties including Dari, Lessi, Gulu and Mbara Payams as reported by The Honorable Governor of Amadi State over EYE Radio on July 12th 2017 at 8:00 Am in the morning that 54 people were dead and 232 people arrived from Yeri County in Mundri West County escaping hunger crisis in Mvolo, Yeri and Bahr El girindi Counties including Dari, Lessi, Gulu and Mbara Payams.

The declaration of hunger by Honorable Governor was also confirmed by the Bishop of Yeri/Mvolo Diocese Rt. Rev John Abraham. On Saturday July 15th 2017 few persons from Amadi State held emergency meeting in Juba in which the decision was made to make urgent life-saving contributions to save lives of those hunger affected people arrived in Mundri West County from Yeri County in dire needs of food. On the way from Yeri a women with four children arrived in Gulu and on their way from Gulu to Mundri the four children collapse on the way unable to walk. That woman hide the four children under the shadow of big tree and she ran to Mundri begging her close relatives in Mundri to help her with few quantities of flour to go back only to make a porridge to help the four weak children regain energy to continue their journey to Mundri. This scenario forced few persons from Amadi State to contribute an amount of SSP 30,000 in cash to enable those in Mundri to purchase flour to make porridge to keep them alive; while government, UN Agencies, International and National NGOs intervention is underway that will arrive later.
