Police assess cyclone damage in remote Australian community

Дата публикации

The community of Maningrida in Australia's Northern Territory has suffered extensive damage from Cyclone Monica.
The community was hit by the cyclone earlier this week when it was a maximum category-five system.

Police sent planes to Maningrida and Oenpelli on Tuesday to assess the damage.

Superintendent James O'Brien says although no one was injured, several buildings have been destroyed.

With power and phones lines down it has been difficult to get information from the community.

The Northern Territory chief minister, Clare Martin, will visit Maningrida later in the day to assess the situation.
