The funds are allocated for the recovery from the damages caused by the floods last year
The European Commission approved the request made by the Bulgarian government for assistance under the Solidarity Fund for the recovery from the floods that hit the country in 2005. Brussels approved compensations amounting to EUR 20.3 mln. This is the second decision in assistance of Bulgaria. In October 2005, the country received EUR 12.3 mln under the PHARE Programme.

After the floods in 2005, Bulgaria sought the assistance of the EU Solidarity Fund. The Ministry of Finance sent two Application Forms to the Commissioner for Regional Policy, Danuta H=FCbner. The approved sums are respectively EUR 9.7 mln and 10.6 mln. The allocation of the funds has to be endorsed by the European Parliament as well.

Bulgaria filed the first application form on 29 July 2005. It concerned the damages caused by the first two flood waves from May to July 2005. The second document was submitted by Minister of Finance Plamen Oresharski in person on 24 August 2005. The information included the damages inflicted by the third wave if floods.
