Al Hudaydah had a great wave of displacement from tens of thousands of patients coming from rural areas and villages. That got the hospitals into desperate trouble, increased the suffering, and resulted in serious dangers. That is to say, it added fuel to the fire especially for children. Consequently, QC provided Al Hudaydah with medical centers including medical supplies and medicines as a kind of instant medical support and it was the reason behind alleviating the suffering of the patients.

Concerning the urgent health campaign, Qatar Charity has launched it in the presence of Deputy General Manager of Health Offices, the heads of the targeted departments, and the heads of health offices in those departments. The campaign has mainly offered six medical centers with medical, curative, and preventative services in Al Hudaydah benefitting more than 120,000 thousand people.

Through the immediate health campaign, QC has sought to: improve the health status of the affected areas in Al Hudaydah especially the coastline’s departments, provide medicines and medical supplies, treat malnourished children and women; and offer professional medical services in emergency cases.

Field Survey

Nasr Qaed Alzaeem, the Director of QC's Office in Sana'a said, "The new health campaign is a part of 2016 campaign which was launched after a field survey conducted to identify the areas that needed immediate intervention. It is noteworthy that medical services have been getting worse due to the rapidly deteriorating situation with regard to security, health and food in all Yemen governorates.

He demonstrated that the campaign has provided medicines and medical supplies for hospitals in the following departments: Bajil, Bayt al-Faqīh, Al Garrahi, Hays, Al Khawkhah, and Al Marawi'ah, in accordance to the reliable system of the medical centers approved by Ministry of Public Health and Population. In addition, QC provided treatment to difficult cases since their therapy was not available in the governorate.

Proving the Qatari people’s loyalties to their Yemeni brothers, Alzaeem asserted that QC's health and relief campaigns are in progress to aid the afflicted areas. He also confirmed that QC is going to carry out more relief and Health Projects in the most of harshly afflicted governorates in 2017.

A difficult Situation

Suspension in hospitals and medical centers in Al Hudaydah, appearance of diseases, epidemics and health problems especially among children; and the displacement of most of fighting zones' residents, as well as the displacement of the rural population to the cities were the reasons behind terribly causing major health crisis and, as a result, hospitals had failed to deal with such enormous number of patients. Hence, QC has led the health campaign in order to equip the hospitals in Al Hudaydah with the necessities needed to perform their duties.

Malnutrition

It is worthy mentioning that QC's office has opened a malnutrition treatment clinic in Al Hudaydah. Further, it took part in a meeting held by the international organizations and Yemeni official authorities to debate the current crisis that demands active relief interventions in Al Hudaydah and a large supply with regard to food security, health, water and sanitation; and shelter. The meeting also discussed the joint endeavors to confront the challenges facing the humanitarian work as well as the tentative steps that would be taken to resolve the humanitarian crisis in the governorate.

Furthermore, QC's Office paid a visit to the displaced people camp in Al Hudaydah to keep an eye on their humanitarian conditions. The mini survey done by QC indicated that 230 families suffer from severe living conditions due to the loss of livelihoods, which they used to depend on. The families’ lives now in uncovered shacks deprived from a safe shelter, so they are exposed to sunlight during the whole day and cold at night, and fluctuations in climate. Besides, though mothers might be forced to bring water from nearby villages, they suffer from water shortages as well.
