The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) is a comprehensive system which collects data on Internally Displaced Persons in targeted provinces of Burundi. The system is based on two types of systematic assessments: Assessments of the displacement trends in the communes and in the main displacement areas (collines*) hosting more than 40 IDP households or 200 IDPs. The commune assessments provide the main displacement figures and trends, and the displacement area assessments provide information on humanitarian needs in the collines hosting the highest number of IDPs. The DTM assessments are con-ducted on a monthly basis but funding for the DTM was completed in eight (8) of the 11 normally covered provinces at the end of 2016. Thanks to the Swiss Development Corporation in January, this assessment includes the DTM data from three provinces in Burundi: Gitega, Bubanza and Cankuzo.
