The emergency medical relief team of the Korean Red Cross responded swiftly to helping the victims of the earthquake in Pakistan. From 20 October to 19 November, the 15-member team of doctors, nurses and relief staff made progress in Besham village in northwest Pakistan.

Part of their medical work was a mobile clinic that traveled around mountainous areas, focusing on orthopedics, internal treatment, surgery, pediatrics and prevention of infectious diseases. A total of 3,956 patients received emergency treatment from the Korean Red Cross medical relief team.

"Even though they had serious injuries, many Pakistani children had not received emergency treatment, so I was low in spirits. But we took care of them by helping them one by one. While we were there, we were very busy, but I think our work paid off in relieving some of the suffering,"said Min-Ju Kim, a nurse of the medical relief team.

On 10 October, the Korean Red Cross delivered US$50,000 to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for Pakistan relief activities. Also, US$290,000 was collected through donations in Korea and will be used to help the affected people in Pakistan.

Still, in Pakistan, several aftershocks have occurred and blankets and winter clothing are seriously needed as winter approaches.
