About 2,000 Sudanese are reportedly clamped at the Libyan-Egyptian border crossing of Musaed in difficult humanitarian circumstances.
On Sunday, a Sudanese migrant told Radio Dabanga that many Sudanese are still fleeing the insecure situation in eastern Libya. “But those of us who cannot produce the right documents are now stuck at this border place.
He explained that most of the Sudanese migrants who worked in Libya do not have formal documents. “Many entered Libya illegally.
“The property and vehicles of many of us have been taken by the border authorities,” he said. “Others were stopped earlier during their flight from Benghazi and Ajdabia in Libya, by uniformed men who stole their belongings.”
He complained that Musaed (also called Imsaad) is a small place. “It lacks the most basic facilities. There are very few possibilities for accommodation. In most instances, more than 10 people have to share one room.”
According to the source, the Sudanese authorities have not intervened so far “as the relationship between the Sudanese and the East Libyan governments is far from strong”.
