Zainab Hawa Bangura in sympathy with victims of sexual violence in the DR Congo

Goma, North Kivu: The Special Representative of the Secretary General on Sexual Violence in Conflict Ms Zainab Hawa Bangura has been to Heal Africa Hospital to visit cases of women of sexual violence in Goma on the 14th of October 2016.

On her arrival at the Goma Airport , Madame Bangura told the Press in Goma that she was on an evaluation mission on the actual situation of women who are victims of Sexual violence as a result of the many the armed conflicts in North and South Kivus after her previous visit in 2013.

In Heal Africa Hospital in Goma, she visited the women’s ward with patients who are victims of sexual violence.

After a guided tour in the hospital, she also appreciated some of the women who are learning some skills like sawing and craft for economic subsistence. She later wrote on the visitors register where she lauded the efforts of MONUSCO, UN Agencies, DRC government, NGO and Non State actors for the great strides they have taken to improve the situation of sexual violence in the country.

Sympathizing with the victims, Ms Bangura said she will continue to impress on the United Nations and the International Committee to ensure that their rights are implemented and their conditions improved upon .

It should be noted that since 2003, Heal Africa has been treating and supporting over 29000 victims of sexual violence as result of the conflicts in North Kivu.
