Highlights

  • As of October 11th, WFP distributed food rations to more than 13,000 people in the South and Grand-Anse departments

  • On October 11th, WFP transported 120MT of food to Jeremie, 100MT by road and 20MT by air

Situation Update

  • Some 2.1 million people have been affected by hurricane Matthew and 1.4 million people are in need of assistance, this represents 12% of the population

  • In La Gonave, 30% of the schools participating in WFP school feeding programme have been severely damaged

WFP Response

  • Food distributions are ongoing in the South and Grand-Anse departments, 77MT have been distributed to more than 13,000 people. Distributions are being carried out directly by WFP or by NGO partners.

  • Since October 7th, WFP transported 551MT of food to Les Cayes and Jeremie. Among those, 67MT were transported by the U.S. Department of Defense helicopters to Jeremie.

  • Two Additional Mobile Storage Units (MSU) have been sent to Les Cayes and Jeremie to store Emergency Stocks. WFP has now a total of 3 MSUs being set up in Les Cayes and 3 in Jeremie.
