Emergency Assistance to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in Response to the Floods Disaster

  1. On Monday, August 22, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (generators etc.) to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia following serious damage from the floods in the country.

  2. Vicinities of Skopje and Tetovo region have been suffering from the floods caused by torrential rain from August 6. The local authorities and media reported, as of 5 pm [Japan time], August 15, 22 people were dead and approximately 25,000 people are affected by the floods.

  3. The Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view for the victims as well as in light of the friendly relationship between Japan and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
