The path of the hurricane Earl and its effect on Central America as of 4 august.
In Belize: Over 1000 people are displaced in 13 shelters in Belize City. 550 children are affected; Most of the country (except the North) has electricity shortages; Initial reports indicate that Belize City has extensive flooding and may have structural damage, especially to low-income wooden housing neighbourhoods; The Philip Goldson International airport remains closed.
In Mexico: The National Civil Protection System is advising people in risk areas; Authorities in Quintana Roo and Yucatan have begun preventive evacuations in coastal communities; Mexican Petroleum Companies are evacuating personnel from platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.
In Honduras: 151 people affected in four departments (Islas de la Bahía, Colon, Gracias a Dios y Cortés); 11 people are in shelters in 3 departments (Islas de la Bahía, Colon, y Cortés; 3 houses damaged in Cortés; Classes were suspended in seven departments in the north costal area; Two international airports were closed (Cortés and Atlántida); -A fishing boat was wrecked with 81 persons rescued, 1 still missing.
In Guatemala: 55 people in shelters in the department of Petén; Classes were suspended in the departments of Izabal and Petén; Air operations suspended in the airport Mundo Maya (Petén).
