GOVERNMENT AND OTHERS DELIVER RECOVERY ASSISTANCE TO MOST AFFECTED HOUSEHOLDS
The Government of Tajikistan and other organizations have provided recovery assistance to Murgab earthquake-affected households exceeding $US4.3 million. The major part of this total has been assistance provided by the Government, including construction materials, including cement, reinforcing iron, wood, windows and roofing to households officially assessed as having had 100% damage from the 2015 Murgab earthquake, together with 13,000 Somoni (US$1,656). In addition, households officially assessed as having 50% damage received payments of 6,000 Somoni (US$ 764), plus some construction materials from the Government.
Those who have received the materials intended for 100% damaged houses are expected to cover additional rebuilding costs and provide locally available materials (e.g., sand, gravel, water) and labor for rebuilding. Those who have just received payments are expected to mobilize additional construction materials and labor for rebuilding. The Government has reportedly provided guidance to local authorities on the need for seismically safe reconstruction. Information on recovery assistance provided by REACT partners can be found in the attached table.
