Using blunt, clear language and holding program leadership directly to account for addressing management shortcomings, the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative has been an essential voice in moving the world closer to finally eradicating polio. With strong leadership and a unique presentation style, the IMB represents an innovative model for global health program oversight that is potentially applicable to other development initiatives grappling with complex, multi-partner governance structures.
