During the COVID-19 crisis, we had to make the difficult decision to temporarily suspend our drop-in clinic service. However, we have continued to support people through the advice line and remote GP consultations.

We have now reopened our clinic 3 days per week – Tuesday (Women & Children Clinic Day), Wednesday and Thursday- incorporating remote support in the services that we offer.

The Student Placement Programme consists in a combination of remote and face-to-face work with service users.

By working with us, you will directly support people to access healthcare helping them to overcome bureaucratic obstacles and providing the much-needed practical support. The needs of our service users are varied, so is the support that we offer: some may require access to antenatal care, termination of pregnancies, mental health support, inhalers, to register with GPs, and more.

When a service user calls, we check whether they are aware of the current COVID-19 guidance (including Covid-19 vaccinations), screen for symptoms, and ensure they have access to relevant information in their community language. We then book them in for a face-to-face appointment in our East London clinic, where we will support them with GP registration, offer HIV & STI testing and bridge them with other relevant services. We offer remote support to those service users who are based outside of London.

Our services are staffed by volunteer support workers, caseworkers, nurses, and GPs. These volunteers provide a highly empathetic and practical service to our service users, making a real difference to people’s lives.

Our effective, committed, and enthusiastic team is looking to incorporate new volunteers. If you are passionate about access to healthcare and enjoy working in a team on often complex and challenging cases, then you should consider becoming a Doctors of the World volunteer!

Those with lived experience of migration, the asylum system, homelessness or exclusion from health services are encouraged to apply.

Location Home-based & face-to-face (Stratford, Est London).

Expected Dates of Interview Ongoing (please note, due to the volume of applications received, we aim to update an applicant on the status of their application within 10 working days of submission)

Please note that we are oversubscribed with applicants, so not being selected will normally reflect our capacity rather than a candidate’s ability.
