The Emergencies and Humanitarian Access Unit (EHAU) is seeking an Instructional Designer for microlearning who is ideas-driven and passionate about making learning an invigorating and empowering experience. As Instructional Designer, you will join the EHAU’s Blended Learning Working Group, a team working on the design and implementation of online/blended learning to strengthen the capacity of staff across the IRC to contribute to quality needs assessments in emergencies. In this critical new (short-term) role, you will work with subject matter experts within the EHAU and with other IRC stakeholders across the organization, as well as with external e-learning developers, to develop high-quality and engaging microlearning experiences focused on the core components of emergency needs assessment. You will also be responsible for developing the course framework on Kaya.connect.org, the organization’s LMS, in line with the IRC’s Rescue Academy best practices.
As Instructional Designer, you will:
•Work with subject matter experts to develop core content that targets the audience’s learning needs.
•Determine the best mode of delivery of content based on learning needs, adult learning theory, and in consultation with subject matter experts.
•Write clear learning objectives and create content that matches them.
•Create engaging microlearning materials/media, including audio, video, interactive eLearning modules, simulations, role plays, games, printable job aids, etc.
•Contribute to the design and implementation of follow-up activities and other module components to strengthen and sustain knowledge gained and skills developed from the course.
•Devise modes of assessment, such as tests or quizzes, to measure the effectiveness and impact of the learning.
•Collaborate with LMS administrator to configure learning products on the organization’s LMS.
•Maintain project documentation and course folders, including templates and tools for future design projects.
•Complete a report/presentation on lessons learned from the project to be applied to future learning development.
•Apply best practices in learning technology.
Our successful candidate will have:
•5+ years of instructional design experience, including microlearning.
•In-depth knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design models.
•Expertise in eLearning authoring and design tools, such as Articulate 360, Vyond, Adobe Illustrator.
•Proven ability in developing engaging and effective microlearning experiences.
•Knowledge and experience with Moodle preferred.
•Experience in instructional design for audiences of varying ages, experience, language fluency, and cultural background.
•Ability to handle multiple priorities and work well under pressure with multiple deadlines.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Fluency in English. Fluency in French, Arabic or Spanish a plus.
