Eastern Turkey was hit by earthquakes on 23 Oct 2011 and 9 Nov 2011, which killed 644 people and affected 650,000. More than 10,000 aftershocks were registered. 2,900 houses collapsed and 25,750 buildings were severely damaged and defined as inhabitable. (IFRC, 5 Jun 2012)
