Tropical Storm Songda, locally known as Chedeng, has intensified into a Category 2 typhoon. The Government forecasts that it could bring heavy rains similar to Typhoon Ketsana that devastated Metro Manila in September 2009 (OCHA Sitrep #1, 25 May 2011).
