Between May and August 2010, several countries in central Europe were hit by flash floods triggered by heavy rains. Poland was the most affected, with floods and landslides in 14 out of 16 regions. (ECHO, 9 Aug 2010)
Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova, Lithuania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia were also affected. Rural communities plunged into vulnerability. (IFRC, 8 Jul 2010)
According to the media, at least 37 people died in the floods and approximately 23,000 people were evacuated.
