During the last week of April and the first days of May 2006 heavy rain, hail and wind caused several mudslides and floods in southern Tajikistan. Farmlands, over 3,000 ha of cotton plantations and infrastructure such as roads and bridges were damaged in a number of districts of Khatlon Oblast (Muminobod, Shurobod, Danghara, Temurmalik, Jomi and Yovon). One casualty was reported in Khorasan District of Khatlon Oblast. According to the IFRC and the Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan (RCST) 56 houses were damaged in the village of Surkhob in Jomi District. Six of the houses were completely destroyed and 5 residents were hospitalised. (OCHA, 10 May 2006)
