On August 20, 31 and September 4, 8, severe typhoons successively hit Fuijan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu provinces and Shanghai municipality, generating floods and causing vast losses to lives and property. Based on preliminary reports from the Chinese government, 559 people died and 2983 were injured. 340,000 rooms collapsed and 1,164 million were damaged. During the last two months, a total of eight typhoons have hit the same area. Cumulative figures for the whole typhoon season to date (figures above included) were as follows: deaths 785, injured 4,089, missing 58, rooms destroyed 409,000, rooms damaged 1,340,000.
