Typhoon 'Hunt' (local name Unsing) with winds up to 150 km/h was forecast to cross the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, and north of Metro Manila, which were affected by typhoons in October. (UN DHA, 22 Nov 1989)

Typhoon 'Hunt' with peak winds up to 160 km/h weakened to a tropical storm with winds of 85 km/h after slamming the Sierra Madre mountain range. Thus metro Manila was spared to some extent. The affected areas were Calauag Polillio Island, northern Samar, Nueva Ecija, Quezon, Rizal and Tarlac provinces including the national capital region. The Office of Civil defence reported as of 22 November, 7 dead, 10 missing, 12,000 people affected, and 70 houses destroyed. (UN DHA, 24 Nov 1989)
