On 17 July 2009, Tropical Cyclone Molave — local name "Isang" — struck the Philippines. (OCHA, 23 Jul 2009) As of 20 July, a total of 56,055 families (248,057 persons) were affected in six provinces of Regions I, III, IV-A and NCR. There were five recorded fatalities and one injury. At the height of the storm, 30 barangays were flooded (floodwaters from 8 inches to knee-deep) in nine cities of Metro Manila. (Govt. of Philippines, 20 Jul 2009)

Hong Kong was spared from major damage during the passage of Typhoon Molave. A total of five people sought medical treatment at the Accident and Emergency Departments at public hospitals. During the passage of Typhoon Molave, the Home Affairs Department opened 27 temporary shelters and provided shelters to 148 people. (Govt. of Hong Kong SAR, 19 Jul 2009)
