The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination in Pakistan has recently reported a high number of dengue fever cases in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). A total of 1,279 laboratory confirmed cases were reported during the months of July and August 2017. (WHO, 3 Sep 2017)

According to the provincial Health Department in Peshawar, as of September 14, the death toll from dengue, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), reached 25. So far, 12,552 people have been tested for Dengue and out of these 2492 people have been found positive for Dengue. Although 781 people have been discharged after treatment, 2,907 are still being treated in the government hospitals as the majority of them suffer from high grade fever, headache and muscular pain i.e. the symptoms close to dengue fever. It is estimated that there is an increasing trend of dengue cases as well as spread of Dengue to other areas as the cases have started to come from areas adjoining those from where initial cases were reported, thus the Commissioner of Peshawar has sent a request on September 13, requesting Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to provide assistance in raising awareness, printing materials and setting up medical camps in the Peshawar. The province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan had officially notified of an outbreak of dengue fever in its capital city-Peshawar. Since mid July to end of September 2017, a total of 52,926 suspected/clinically diagnosed cases of dengue fever including 38 associated deaths had been reported. Of these, 10,893 cases had been laboratory-confirmed by NS1 antigen test (Non- structural protein). (WHO, 1 Oct 2017)

The provincial health department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in Pakistan has reported an additional 12,430 suspected cases of dengue fever and 4 deaths since last week. So far, a cumulative total of 87,250 cases had been reported since 19 July 2017, including 18 892 laboratory-confirmed cases and 58 deaths. The district Peshawar has reported the highest number of cases, with a current total of 78,844 suspected cases, including 16,991 confirmed cases and 53 deaths. (WHO, 26 Oct 2017)

A large number of hospitalized dengue fever cases of were reported from leading tertiary care hospital in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provice. During this outbreak, a total of 24,807 laboratory confirmed cases with 69 deaths were reported so far. (WHO, 12 Nov 2017)
