Typhoon Usagi (locally known as Odette) struck the Philippines on 21 Sep 2013 in the southern part of Itbayat Island, one of the three main islands of the Batanes group of islands, affecting almost 48,000 people and causing severe damage to agriculture (OCHA, 23 Sep 2013).

In China, media reports say that two people are dead and two others missing in Taiwan Province, while in mainland China 25 people have died and more than 80,000 evacuated as Usagi made landlfall on 23 September (OCHA, 23 Sep 2013).

In the Philippines, monsoon rains worsened by Typhoon Usagi have caused flash floods and landslides, since the weekend of Sunday 22 September, affecting nearly 600,000 people, leaving at least 30 dead and two missing (IFRC, 28 Sep 2013).

Heavy monsoon rains exacerbated by the typhoon killed at least 36 people in Viet Nam and Cambodia (ECHO, 25 Sep 2013).
