Starting with the beginning of the rainy season in July 2012, torrential rains caused local flooding in several areas of Senegal, including St. Louis (North), Bambey (center) and the capital Dakar. After heavy rains on 26 Aug, the Government launched an emergency plan. Over 6,500 houses were destroyed and more than 5,000 families were displaced. The flooding also contaminated 7,700 drinking water sources. (OCHA, 15 Sep 2012)
As of 15 Oct, the majority of displaced people had been able to return to their homes (OCHA, 15 Oct 2012).
