REGIONAL OVERVIEW

Over the past month, the number of Ebola cases in the region has significantly increased. UNICEF's efforts through partners to control the epidemic have increased but the challenges remain substantial. The need to halt the spread of the disease by combating rumors, fears and misconceptions about the Ebola virus through interpersonal communication strategies is becoming more and more critical to the overall response.

This past month in Accra, governments from across West Africa, NGOs and UN agencies agreed on a set of joint priority actions. The main outcome was consensus on the following response components: communication with and participation of communities, external communication, early detection, contract tracing, quality case management, and surveillance and border control.
