Incidents Update: During the last two weeks, three new natural disaster incidents were reported.

North Region:

Balkh Province: Following the request made by communities concerning the destruction of the houses, roads and agricultural land by river bank erosion in Kaldar and Shortepa districts, the OHW (Organization for Humanitarian Welfare) initiated an assessment in both affected locations. The initial findings of the assessment indicate that between 1 May to 19 June 2014, 484 houses, 31.5 KM secondary road and 3,315 jeribs of agricultural land were destroyed, 40 drinking water sources were damaged in two villages and 12 hectares natural forest were also damaged. In addition, the destruction of the houses resulted in displacement of 484 families, which are now living with host families.

A PDMC meeting was convened on 24 June to discuss the initial findings of the assessment conducted by OHW and to assign a joint assessment team to visit the affected area in order to investigate the level of damage. Two assessment teams consisting of DAIL, RRD, WFP, CARE,
OHW, Actionaid and DACAAR were deployed to the area on 25 June to reassess the area and share the findings with PDMC members.
