Madagascar:
Attacks by the dahalo (cattle raiders) have resumed in the south, specifically in Amboasary and Betroka districts. The most recent attack on 30 April, resulted in 500 stolen cattle and 2 deaths. On 25 April, armed dahalo men killed a lieutenant of the Malagasy army, in Morombe district. Due to increased rural insecurity, people have been forced to leave their villages.
The displaced people are hosted by inhabitants of villages in the neighboring Amboasary district.

Comoros:
After various expert analyses on the soil stability in La Mahale on Anjouan island, it has been recommended that only 5 families should not return to their homes. The central and local government are therefore busy planning for the return of the remaining displaced people from the Bambao Camp. This is expected to be done using a phased approach and began on 2 May 2014.

South Africa:
The 2014 general election will be held on 7 May 2014, to elect a new National Assembly as well as new provincial legislatures in each province. A total of 169 parties will contest the elections.
The process has so far been generally peaceful, barring a few incidents of localized violence. Violence erupted on South Africa's platinum belt on Sunday when members of the striking AMCU union attacked sports minister Fikile Mbalula as he campaigned in the area for the ruling ANC. As of 5 May, over 60 people in 84 reported cases have been arrested for election violence, intimidation and assault.
