Highlights

  • Since the South Sudanese ceasefire agreement was signed on 23 January, the number of refugees crossing the border into Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan has decreased. However, the influx continues and is expected to do so until security in South Sudan has been restored.

  • WFP provides critical food assistance to all new refugees, with a particular focus on the nutritional status of children who constitute the majority of the refugee population.

  • In Uganda, UN agencies and the Government have launched an appeal to meet the needs of refugees from South Sudan for the coming six months. In addition to existing needs, WFP requires US$6.7 million to assist newly arrived refugees.
