The Japanese Government Grants US$895,360 for Seven Grass-roots Human Security Projects

H.E. Mr. Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador of the Embassy of Japan and Chairmen of the Committees from State and Region concerned, signed the grant contracts for seven projects today, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects(GGP) Scheme, totaling US$895,360 as listed below.

  1. The Project for Upgrading Medical Facilities in Matupi Township, Chin State (US$117,761)

  2. The Project for Upgrading Medical Facilities in Kyaukkyi Township, Bago Region (US$114,548)

  3. The Project for Construction of Two Sub Rural Health Centers in Hpa-an Township, Kayin State (US$107,634)

  4. The Project for Upgrading Medical Health Environment in Tiddim Township, Chin State (US$140,369)

  5. The Project for Construction of Ywa Thit Village Water Supply System in Myaing Township, Magway Region (US$121,720)

  6. The Project for Construction of Water Treatment and Water Supply System at Bawlakhe Township in Kayah State (US$109,413)

  7. The Project for Construction of Hopone Town Spring Water Supply System in Hopone Township, Shan State (US$183,915)

Matupi and Tiddim in Chin State, Kyaukkyi in East Bago Region, Hpa-an in Kayin State, Bawlakhe in Kayah State, Hopone in Shan State and Myaing in Magway Region are hometowns for various ethnic minorities, such as Chin, Kayin, Kayah, Pa-O and Shan including Myanmar.

Residents of Matupi, Kyaukkyi, Hpa-an and Tiddim Townships, who are living away from good medical services, will benefit from the new medical equipment and facilities funded by the Government of Japan. The fund will be used to construct four new Sub Rural Health Centers in Tiddim and Hpa-an Townships and to upgrade Township General Hospitals and Station Hospitals in Matupi, Tiddim and Kyaukkyi Townships with necessary medical equipment.
