Mauritius:
Moderate Tropical Storm Bejisa is projected to move in a southerly to south-easterly direction, with the centre passing between Mauritius and Reunion islands from 2 to 3 January 2014. Associated rain is likely to occur from 31 December and intensify on 1 January 2014, with the likelihood of floods and strong winds.

Madagascar:
BNGRC/UNOCHA/Meteorological Services are closely monitoring the path of Moderate Tropical Storm Bejisa, which is likely to bring rain to north-east Madagascar if it continues along its current south-easterly projection. No alert is launched yet and the National/Regional Contingency Plans are not activated yet.

The latest results on the presidential election, from 19,245 polling stations out of 20,001, indicate that Mr Hery Rajaonarimampianina has received 53.3% of the votes against 46.7% for Dr Jean Louis Robinson. The CENIT decided that the provisional election results will be released on 3 January 2014, at which point protests could resurge.

No new cases of bubonic/pneumonic plague have been reported in SAVA and Diana regions in the last week. The situation in Mandritsara district is under control according to WHO. Currently, the MoH has decided not to declare the situation an epidemic.

Mozambique:
Approximately 1,200 people were affected by heavy rain throughout Mozambique, who were promptly assisted by local Government. About 1,319 houses were partially destroyed and 140 houses totally destroyed, while 4 health posts and 46 classrooms were affected in Maputo and Manica provinces. The CTGC (National Emergency Operations Centre) has activated an institutional Orange Alert.

Namibia:
The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry is distributing 90 MT of free Zambian maize seeds in the northern region this week, to assist with the drought response.
