Situation Overview:
The security situation in the country remains volatile and hostile.
There is ongoing sporadic shooting in Bangui, door to door looting and arbitrary executions. The population lives in constant fear for their life.

During a Summit on Peace and Security in Africa held in Paris from 6 to 7 December 2013, France agreed to help African nations create a joint military force to tackle coups, wars and rebellions on the continent. On 7 December, United Nations officials met with African leaders in Paris, to discuss the escalating inter-communal violence and worsening humanitarian situation in CAR. The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated that “there is an urgent need to avoid further deterioration” in the Central African Republic.
The Secretary-General also called for the implementation of the Security Council resolution adopted authorizing the African-led International Support Mission to the CAR, (AFISM-CAR), as well as the deployment of French troops to assist it.

French troops are now deployed in Bossangoa and Kaga Bandoro.
In Bangui they remain on the main roads and at the airport.
There is air support.

In the face of grave human rights violations and the deteriorating humanitarian situation, resolution 2127 requests the establishment of an International Commission of Inquiry and a sanctions regime.
