TROPICAL STORM 03A

A tropical storm made landfall on the coastal areas of Puntland on 10 November 2013. The Puntland authorities subsequently declared an emergency on 11 November.

According to FAO the storms affected about 5,000 households and an estimated 270,000 livestock, which is the main source of livelihood for most of the pastoralists in the area.The most affected areas are Bandarbayla, Dangoroyo and Eyl. Assistance from the Puntland authorities, the UN and NGO partners continues in the most affected areas. The storm also hit parts of Somaliland leaving atleast 10 people dead, over 60 houses destroyed and over 500 livestock killed. The most affected areas are parts of Awdal, Sanaag and Woqooyi Galbeed regions. Local authorities and the business community spearheaded response to people affected in Somaliland.

UNKNOWN DISEASE IN HIRAAN REGION

An unidentified disease has reportedly affected at least 20 people in Hiraan region since mid-October, though unconfirmed reports put the number much higher. Ceel Cali and Baar villages remain the epicentre of the disease. WHO has taken samples and the testing is ongoing.
