In Syria, heavy fighting along the border with Jordan in the southern province of Dar’a is on-going. After a week-long battle in Aleppo, the Government army regained control of the strategic town of Khanasser which is located on a key supply route between central Syria and Aleppo. Meanwhile, ground fighting is ongoing across Syria, with clashes extending to the previously relatively stable governorate of Tartous.

Heavier than usual monsoon rains has led to floods affecting large parts of Thailand. As of 8 October, almost 3 million people living across 30 of the country’s 77 provinces were affected by the ongoing floods. Mobile health clinics have reportedly been deployed after the authorities announced that 37,000 people have fallen ill due to the floods. In coming weeks, the extensive floods may further exacerbate the ongoing dengue epidemic which has already affected over 100,000 people.

In recent years, recurrent climatic shocks have negatively impacted agricultural activities in the North and Far North Sahelian regions of Cameroon, resulting in severe food insecurity and malnutrition affecting 615,000 people, according to FAO.
