Reports indicate at least seven people have been killed in Balochistan Province following a 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the province today.

The region is reeling from a massive earthquake experienced earlier in the week. The Balochistan Provincial Disaster Management Authority reports the earthquake caused 359 deaths and affected 185,000 people.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicentre of today’s earthquake was recorded at 96 kilometres north-east of Awaran District, which was hit the hardest by the earlier earthquake. Several homes have reportedly been destroyed in the district, especially in Nok Jo village, Mashkay Tehsil, which has an estimated population of 15,000 people.

The Government and humanitarian partners continue relief activities in the affected areas, but their efforts are being hampered by the remoteness of the affected areas and insecurity.

A map of the affected areas is available here.
