The Government of Japan provided emergency relief goods consisting of tents and blankets worth 12 million yen ( approximately USD 120,000) to the Republic of Zimbabwe, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). In response to a request following the hailstorm which occurred from the 1st week to 3rd week of April, the goods were distributed with the co-operation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Zimbabwe office and the Department of Civil Protection in the Ministry of Local Government, Urban and Rural Development. The hailstorm was severe causing serious damage to the people’s livelihoods, including destruction of their property and other belongings.

The handover ceremony was held on the 3rd of June, 2013. In the picture above [see attachment], the Ambassador of Japan to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Mr. Yonezo FUKUDA (right) shakes hands with Minister of Local Government, Urban and Rural Development, Honourable Ignatius CHOMBO.
