Overview

The LRA continues to spread fear and pose a significant threat to civilians living in the affected areas of the DRC and the CAR. March 2013 saw a spike in incidents of presumed LRA attacks with 30 attacks in the DRC alone, more than any other month since January 2012.

Over 420,000 people remain displaced from their homes in LRA-affected areas of CAR, DRC and South Sudan. This is a 5% decrease from the 2012 caseload.

Some 66 LRA attacks reported in Q1 2013 resulted in 30 deaths and 87 abductions (10% of whom were children). Insecurity in CAR continues to affect proper tracking since December 2012.

There is an estimated shortfall of US$83.6 million in funding for humanitarian response in LRA-affected areas of CAR and DRC.
