IDB Mission in Manila to Oversee Restoration Work at Schools Hit by Typhoon Bopha

Jeddah, KSA, 20.03.2013 – A mission of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) arrived today in Manila to oversee restoration work at a number of schools hit by Typhoon Bopha last year in Mindanao region, southern Philippines. The Bank has already allocated US$ 100,000 for restoration of seven schools in the region including provision of computers, furniture and stationary.
The Islamic Development Bank has, since 1996, allocated US$ 16 million as assistance to the Muslim community in the Philippines. To date, nearly US$ 12.4 million of the stated amount has been utilized for the construction of 36 schools and health clinics as well as for emergency relief aid packages.
It is worth mentioning that, in addition to contributing to socio-economic development of its 56 member countries, the IDB extends assistance to Muslim communities in non-member countries (such as the Philippines) to enable these communities play an active and positive role in their countries. IDB has thus provided special assistance packages and grants to Muslim communities in 72 non-member countries on the five continents.
