Philippines - TC Bopha (Pablo) struck the southern Philippines about 5 weeks ago. On 3 Jan, the death toll stands at 1,067 with a further 848 people reported missing. There are still 13,940 people staying in evacuation centers, while 959,267 displaced people are seeking shelter elsewhere. Over 210,000 houses are damaged. A large international response is underway, in support of the government. Emergency Shelter remains the highest priority need.

Sri Lanka - Beginning on 18 Dec, torrential rain has caused flash floods and landslides in almost every district of the country. As of 30 Dec, The number of affected people is estimated at 402,000, with a total of 39,000 people evacuated to 242 shelters across the country. Although the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has weakened, more shower is expected in Sri Lanka. Fiji - TC Evan has caused widespread damage across areas in western Fiji.
The State of Natural Disaster for the Western Division ends 8 January. While numbers in evacuation centers have fallen to fewer than 200 individuals in four centers reconstruction of the estimated 8,175 damaged and destroyed homes is a priority as well as ensuring food security in affected communities. The government will complete a Humanitarian Action Plan (HAP) this week with a three month planning horizon.

Samoa - TC Evan has struck Samoa killing four and destroying and damaging housing which has left nearly 13,000 people affected. Restoration of electricity, water supply, and addressing sanitation issues in the temporary shelters remain priorities for response. A world bank supported Post Disaster Needs Assessments (PDNA) mission is scheduled to takes place from 7 to 20 January.

Bangladesh - A cold wave has affected more than 2 million households around the country. More than 600,000 blankets have been distributed however needs are assessed at more than 2 million blankets which leaves a gap of around 1.4 million people in urgent need of blankets to which an Emergency Cash Grant may be request in the coming days.

Philippines -Tropical Storm Wukong (Quinta) made landfall over Leyte on 26 December and has subsequently weakened to a tropical depression. As of 31 Dec, 20 deaths were reported and over 240,000 people were affected. Almost 58,000 people were served in 60 evacuation centers. 3,500 houses were damaged and 1,500 were destroyed.

Solomon Islands - TC Freda passed over the islands on 29 Dec. Joint government, UN and NGO assessments teams have been deployed to two of the most affected provinces, Makira and Guadalcanal. No request for international assistance has been made at this time.

Malaysia and Thailand - Tropical storm Sonamu is forecast to strike Malaysia on 7 January. People in the southern part of Thailand and Northern Malaysia are warned of heavy rain and possible flood between 7 - 9 January.

India -North India is still caught in the grip of the harsh cold wave which claimed 11 more lives in Uttar Pradesh on 5 Jan, taking this winter's death toll to 140.
