Myanmar - The total IDP caseload in Rakhine state is nearly 110,000 people. Violence in Oct caused 89 deaths and 136 injuries. Over 5,300 houses and religious buildings were burned or destroyed. The Gov requested international assistance to support the humanitarian response.

Viet Nam - The Gov. reports 400,000 people including 160,000 children in 11 Northern provinces have been affected by Typhoon Son Tinh by 30 October. Thai Binh and Nam Dinh provinces are the worst affected. Local authorities have led the emergency response with support from NGOs with presence on the ground.

Sri Lanka - On 29 Oct, Tropical Storm Nilam hit northern Sri Lanka with strong winds and heavy rains. The Gov reports the storm affected nearly 128,000 people, of which more than 20,000 people are from the newly resettled areas in Mullaitivu district. The Gov requested the UN to mobilize non-food items for up to 11,200 people in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, and Mullaitivu districts.

India - On 31 Oct, Tropical Storm Nilam hit southern India displacing more than 150,000 people and claiming 22 lives. The Gov has set up 86 relief camps sheltering 68,000 people.

Pacific - Global forecast models predict a neutral or weak El Niño for the coming 3 months. El Niño has historically meant less rainfall and less severe storms for much of the South Pacific.
Source: Island Climate Update Precipitation Forecast - Most of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Vanuatu are forecast to receive less than average rainfall. Eastern China, Japan, as well as Kiribati have a slight chance for receiving greater than average rain.
