The overall district was considered to be in the ALERT stage. This was mainly attributed to the fact that livestock sector and humans have continued to be threatened by brucellosis (zoonotic disease) coupled with other livestock diseases seen prevalent in the district. Besides the water sector is also at the ALERT stage as a result of the emergency level of the borehole usage coverage. The Pastoral zone was projected to worsen because there is fear that the CBPP will continue being a problem if no further vaccinations are carried out. Other zones are expected to improve because of the ongoing harvest and besides the rains are expected to continue as seen in the seasonal forecast on page 5 of this document. These will allow the farmers plant short maturing crops hence improving their food basket and food security.
