Coastal Municipalities Water Utility's facilities in the Gaza strip were badly damaged during the wave of the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip in the past few days.

On 19/8/2012, an Israeli strike hit a wastewater pump station in middle Gaza district destroying it completely. The station was constructed in 2004 through a fund from the Japanese government and was serving 200,000 people. CMWU said the destruction of the pump will have a great negative impact on the refinement of sewage in the area.

On the same day, CMWU’s headquarter in Gaza city was partially damaged due to the shelling of a nearby building. The attack caused damages to CMWU’s furniture, windows and electricity and internet networks.

According to the General Director of CMWU, Monther Shoblaq, the Israeli strikes have caused CMWU large losses that will greatly impede its workflow.
