The Government is to establish at least one privileged school in every Divisional Secretariat area.

The Education Ministry will establish 30 Isuru Pasal (Schools which have better facilities) in the North, on priority basis of the country, reported Daily News.

Under this project five Isuru Pasal will be established in the Jaffna District. The Government will spend Rs.35 million to upgrade a school as a Isuru Pasal aiming to offer similar education opportunities to the students in every part of the country.

In accordance with the 10 year Education Sector Development Programme, the Education Ministry has taken action to construct 150 'Isuru Pasals' throughout the country, at a cost of Rs.5, 250 million.

The project, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) commenced in 2007. It will reduce student congestion prevailing in certain privileged schools situated especially in urban areas.
