The number of suspected cases of cholera continues to decline since the beginning of the second half of 2017. From January to July 2017, 8,365 suspected cases of cholera with 87 mortality cases were recorded throughout the country, representing a decrease of 65.9% and 61.8% respectively compared to the same period in the previous year. In the country's ten departments, 58 mobile teams supported by 8 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) - WASH and Health - with technical and financial support of UNICEF and PAHO / WHO continue to carry out community activities and institutional care. These teams intervene in support of the 12 Rapid Response Teams (EMIRA) of the Ministry of Public Health and Population.

PAHO / WHO is continuing its efforts to improve the Alert / Response component and the quality of care through 4 specialized field teams deployed throughout the country. On the other hand, the integration and up grading of all the structures is not yet implemented due to the lack of funding – particularly of the National Plan for the Elimination of Cholera.
