During 2017, four MHPSS coordination groups were established in South Sudan with support from IOM South Sudan MHPSS Unit.

  • IOM South Sudan MHPSS unit, as co-lead of the CG, organized the activation of the local level MHPSS Working Group in Bentiu, Unity State. IOM and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) co-lead the body in Bentiu.
  • CG was one of the four (4) country MHPSS teams to present during the Online Consultative Meeting for the revision of the SPHERE Handbook in May 2017. The aim was to solicit insights from field practitioners on the best ways to integrate MHPSS in the new version of SPHERE to be released in February 2018.
  • From 4 to 6 June, CG participated in the Global MHPSS Conference at King’s College in London, United Kingdom. The conference tackled the latest trends in MHPSS programming and coordination in different emergency and development operations around the world.
  • From 12 to 17 June, WHO with support from the CG, conducted an adaptation and Training of Trainers (ToT) on Mental Health Gap Ac on Programme – Humanitarian Intervention Guide (mhGAP-HIG) in Juba. A total of 30 MHPSS actors from the humanitarian community and government participated. Focus of the training was the prioritization of Juba and the Equatorias as areas for the rollout of mhGAP-HIG.
