  • On 9 August, a rocket was fired from the Gaza strip into Israeli territory, towards the city of Ashkelon. No injuries were reported on the Israeli side. The Israeli army retaliated with three airstrikes into Gaza city. Seven people were injured, of whom one is reportedly in critical condition.

  • The rocket fire comes alongside an escalation in internal Palestinian divisions that led to a cut in the already limited supply of electricity to Gaza, further exacerbating a dire humanitarian situation resulting from the 10-year blockade of the Gaza strip. The availability of essential services, such as health, water and sanitation services, has been severely impacted.
