HIGHLIGHTS

As of August 2nd, there were 202 residents living in Veria site. 43 new arrivals were received throughout July, from Chios, Lesvos islands and from the Evros border crossing. Each group transferred is received and provided with food and non-food items by the responsible actors on site. They are welcomed and briefed about site services and amenities by members of the community and site agencies. Children attend support classes provided on site by NRC that continue during summer and include Greek and English lessons. German lessons started in July by volunteers. Protection services, including Child Protection, Women’s Protection, Legal Assistance, Asylum Information, Psychosocial Support and more, were provided by IRC, UNHCR, DRC,KEELPNO Praksis and EASO. Health Services are provided by St. Elizabeth Medical Team, KEELPNO and PRAKSIS. Praksis left the camp end of July and handed over their cases to IRC and KEELPNO. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene services are provided by NRC. NRC is responsible for the maintenance of communal infrastructure, in support of the Site Management. Distribution of food and NFIs is carried out by Bridge 2. NRC also provides food and NFIs to new arrivals in the camp.

The site’s Committee of Refugee Representatives liaises between the actors working on site, and the rest of the Community. In the month of July, the Committee took on new members, including new arrivals, who were trained in the Code of Conduct and Roles & Responsibilities of community representatives. Community Focal Points also monitor the usage and operation of Communal Kitchens in each building .Community focal points for the laundry station were also assigned. In July, a Safety Committee that is responsible for Fire, Road and General Safety in the camp was formed and has attended First Aid and Fire Safety trainings. A communal space available for all actors and residents to use is available from early August.
