Haiti: Humanitarian Dashboard (January - December 2016)
SITUATION OVERVIEW
The humanitarian context in Haiti, which had improved in the early months of 2016, deteriorated sharply in October following Hurricane Matthew in the southern peninsula. As a result, despite the efforts of humanitarian partners, the humanitarian situation in Haiti remains fragile due to multiple risk factors, including natural disasters (1.4 million people), persistent cholera (41,421 cases from January to 31 December 2016), food insecurity (1.5 million people), the bi-national migratory crisis with the Dominican Republic (160,452 people registered since June 2015) and displaced persons following the 2010 earthquake (46,691 persons still living in camps in December 2016). The 2016 humanitarian response plan is funded at 35% and more than 450,000 people have been assisted by projects implemented under this plan. On the other hand, the Flash appeal for Haiti following the hurricane is funded at 62%, which allowed humanitarian partners to help more than one million people through the distribution of food, NFIs, drinking water, health, nutrition, protection and education services, among others.
