Flash floods caused by heavy rains on 13 and 14 April have inundated a number of districts in seven governorates in Yemen – Al Hudaydah, Amran, Hajjah, Sana'a, Al Mahwit, Aden, and Marib affecting an estimated 4,000 families (24,000 people). While estimations of deaths are still being verified initial information indicate that at least 20 people have been killed. (OCHA, 16 Apr 2016)

After heavy rains on 13 and 14 April, cluster agencies have carried out assessments across 4 Governorates and delivery of NFIs, shelter kits and tents is already underway with larger quantities in the pipeline for the next 48 hours. According to Agence France-Presse, the death toll is up to 24 and more people are reported missing. (Yemen Shelter CCCM Cluster, 16 Apr 2016)

Throughout the month of April and at the beginning of May, humanitarian partners and authorities continued to assess and respond to the needs of affected communities. Constraints in movement are due to damaged infrastructure and localised clashes. In some areas like Amran, local authorities have appealed for support to keep the emergency/operations response room functioning. (OCHA, 8 May 2016)

In mid-April 2016, floods and landslides affected over 49,000 individuals across Yemen, damaging houses, crops and vital infrastructure. UNHCR coordinated the shelter and relief items response for nearly 15,000 persons. (UNHCR, 30 Apr 2016)
